SmartNest.be was created in 2024 to share our journey towards a smarter and more energy efficient home through data and information specific to Belgium and Brussels.

Our house is located in Brussels and is fully electric with 3-phases, a geothermal heat pump (Nibe F1145), a mechanical ventilation (Zehnder ComfoAir), solar panels (18 x 405W panels and an 5kW inverter from SMA) and an electric car (Tesla Model Y).

Home automation

The brain of our smart house is Home Assistant running on an old Mac Mini running as much as possible locally.

Power monitoring and control:

On top of the integrated power monitoring from the solar panels and ventilation units, we have the following:

• P1 meter from HomeWizard to measure the power consumed from the network and injected to the network on all three phases.
• Power plugs from HomeWizard and Shelly to measure/control the consumption of individual devices
• Shelly PM Mini to monitor the power consumption of some devices directly in the plug
• Shelly 1 Mini to control some switches

Other events

• Shelly Blu Door/Window to have some automation based on opening/closing doors and window
• Shelly Blu H&T to track temperature and humidity in some rooms
• Awair Element to track the temperature, humidity, CO2, VOC, PM2.5 in some rooms.
